Ultra HD - The Resolution Revolution

Ultra HD the latest development in broadcast television. Images with four times the detail produce shaper, clearer, deeper colour pictures which enhance the viewing experience, particularly for sports coverage, documentaries and movies.

The resolution for Ultra HD is 3840x2160 pixels, compared to 1920x1080 for Full HD or 720x576 for standard definition TV. Ultra HD can be displayed on today's 4K TV sets.

  • More vibrant colours

    (even with a large screen)

Television has never been so good

The momentum of Ultra HD TV is increasing with more and more manufactures making the new televisions. Now broadcasters around the world are commissioning and making programmes using Ultra HD cameras and delivering these programmes to their viewers.

Astra has been among the pioneers of this new technology and is working closely with industry partners to establish the technology standards for Ultra HD.

As the biggest HD broadcaster in Europe we are committed to pursuing ever-better quality and are proud to have been the first to transmit Ultra HD channels to a European audience. Currently we have eight commercial broadcast channels on our satellites and have two demonstration channels at 19.2°E and 28.2°E which show the real benefits of this breath-taking new technology.
