The ProSiebenSat.1 Group (broadcasting via ASTRA 19.2°E and ASTRA 23.5°E) has acquired full ownership of the German video-on-demand internet portal Maxdome from its partner, web-hosting company 1&1 Internet. Maxdome was started in 2006 as a 50:50 joint venture between ProSiebenSat.1 Group and 1&1 Internet, and boasts Germany’s largest online video library with 35,000 titles including films, TV drama, comedy, sport, music and cartoons. Customers can select titles via subscription or as a one-off pay-per-view, to stream or download. Some titles can be purchased to keep permanently

In June 2010 Maxdome introduced a hybrid version of its Media Center PVR set-top box for reception of the VOD service, other on-line catch-up services, and direct-to-home satellite TV, including the HD+ high definition platform on ASTRA 19.2°E which carries three HD channels from ProSiebenSat.1.

Sixx makes eight for HD+

German women’s entertainment channel Sixx will launch as a high definition channel on the HD+ platform on December 1. Sixx HD is the fourth HD channel from ProSiebenSat.1 group to broadcast via HD+ and will bring the number of channels on HD+ to eight, joining kabel eins HD, Pro7 HD, RTL HD, RTL2 HD (also launching in December), Sat.1 HD, Sport1 HD, and VOX HD.

HD+ broadcasts from the ASTRA 19.2°E satellites and 400,000 HD+ set-top boxes have been sold since the platform’s launch in 2009. Wilfried Urner, Managing Director of HD+ said, "The fast channel take-up and the positive receiver sales demonstrate the popularity of HD+ among broadcasters and TV viewers. It shows that only one year after its launch, HD+ has established itself as an integral part of the German TV landscape."
