The number one European broadcaster, RTL is launching a new German-language entertainment channel, RTL Nitro. Starting on April 1, the channel will show mostly US series with a daily theme led by feature shows.

Belgian DTH provider TéléSAT Numerique has added high definition versions of RTBF channel, La Une and RTL’s TVi to the platform for French-speaking residents of Belgium. The HD channels replace previous standard definition versions and join TéléSAT SD channels, La Deux, La Trois, Club RTL, and Plug RTL broadcasting from ASTRA 19.2°E.

For the first time more households in Germany receive their TV by satellite rather than by cable. Research by TNS Infratest for the SES’ TV Monitor survey shows that at the end of last year, 17.5 million German homes watched satellite DTH services (almost 900,000 more than in 2010), while 17.3 million watched TV from cable (900,000 fewer homes than in the previous year).

Sky Deutschland will be adding more high definition channels to its line-up from June. The German pay-TV platform has taken another transponder on the ASTRA 19.2°E satellites to increase its HD offering from the 39 German-speaking HD channels currently broadcast to more than 50 by the end of the year.
