In 2013, sales of smart TVs around the World reached 90 million, and by the end of 2014 30% of households in developed countries will own a smart TV, according to a report from research company Futuresource Consulting. By 2018 there will be 228 million smart TVs in use, in 70% of households in the developed world.
Smart TVs connect to the internet to allow reception of additional TV choice and on-demand programming alongside broadcast TV. Futuresource reckons that 80% of smart TV owners now actually connect their TVs to the internet, and over half of owners are using an online service on their smart TV at least once a week.
