Eastern Europe Goes Digital by Satellite

Digital TV penetration is predicted to reach 61.4% by the end of 2013 and 97.3% by 2018. Almost half of the 21 countries covered will be completely digital by 2018.

However, the attractions of satellite TV will see a decline in the households using terrestrial TV from 43.82% in 2012 to 34.71% in 2018, while households in Eastern Europe watching both free-to-air and pay-TV DTH satellite platforms will rise from 27.06% to more than a third (33.39%) of TV homes.

Eastern European viewers are served by ASTRA satellites at 5°E, 23.5°E and 31.5°E.
