Germany Takes To HbbTV

Compiled last summer, the report says there are expected to be 7 million HbbTV-capable, internet-connected devices in German homes by the end of 2013.

Meanwhile, German services provider, Media Broadcast has launched the Multithek HbbTV platform on its 12.633GHz transponder on the ASTRA 19.2°E satellite. Multithek is a free-to-air service available to all HbbTV receivers and offers catch-up TV from ARD, ZDF, ProSiebenSat.1 and Muzu.TV, news and weather information, and family-friendly games.

HbbTV is an open technology platform to seamlessly combine broadcast TV and online services on TVs and set-top boxes, and was established by the HbbTV consortium of broadcasting and electronics companies, including SES (operator of the ASTRA satellites).
