Talk TV
By: SES
The shape – or sound – of things to come in set-top boxes may be revealed by an HD receiver developed for the digital switchover in Australia. The Hills HD94003G is the first ever receiver to talk to the user, to help blind and partially sighted people to navigate through the digital channels and the various functions of the box.
The Talk TV system, developed by Ocean Blue Software and the Royal National Institute of Blind (RNIB) in the UK, provides text-to-speech conversion to voice the program guides and menu items to the user, along with audio feedback when remote control buttons are pressed.
